Plagiarism Policy

Introduction

Al-Rā'id is committed to the highest standards of scholarly integrity. Plagiarism is a serious offense that undermines the credibility of research and scholarship. This policy outlines the expectations for authors submitting work to Al-Rā'id and the consequences of plagiarism.

Definitions

  • Plagiarism: The appropriation of another person's ideas, expressions, or data without proper attribution. This includes:
    • Verbatim copying: Copying text word-for-word from another source without quotation marks and proper citation.
    • Paraphrasing: Rewriting another person's ideas without proper attribution.
    • Mosaic plagiarism: Copying phrases or sentences from different sources without proper citation, creating a seemingly original text.
    • Self-plagiarism: Reusing significant portions of your own previously published work without proper citation.

Author Responsibilities

  • Authors must ensure the originality of their work.
  • All sources used in the preparation of the manuscript must be properly cited using a recognized citation style (e.g., APA, Chicago, MLA).
  • Direct quotations must be enclosed in quotation marks and accompanied by a citation.
  • Paraphrased material must be attributed to the original source and cited appropriately.
  • Authors must obtain permission to reproduce copyrighted material from the copyright holder.

Detection and Consequences of Plagiarism

Al-Rā'id utilizes plagiarism detection software to screen all submitted manuscripts. Manuscripts identified with plagiarism will be subject to the following actions:

  • Initial Detection: The author(s) will be notified of potential plagiarism and given the opportunity to address the concerns. This may involve revising the manuscript to properly cite sources or obtain permission for copyrighted material.
  • Repeated Offenses: In cases of repeated or severe plagiarism, the manuscript may be rejected for publication.
  • Retraction: If plagiarism is discovered after publication, Al-Rā'id may retract the article and notify the relevant academic community.
